Trailhead Hike: Gunpowder Falls State Park

$5. Long hike: 13 mi., 2000 ft. ascent, 2000 ft. descent. Moderate hike: 10 mi., 1300 ft. ascent, 1300 ft. descent.

From Bunker Hill South parking lot, we’ll begin our exploration of the park’s scenic Hereford Area by heading east on the Gunpowder South and Panther Branch Trails to the Big Falls area at the end of the park. Then we head west on the Gunpowder North Trail. Moderate hikers will cross the the river at Masemore Rd. and complete the circuit via the Gunpowder South Trail eastbound. Long hikers will cross the river at Falls Rd., continue on the Gunpowder South Trail with a rock scramble by the rapids, ascend the Highland Trail, and then follow the Gunpowder South Trail eastbound.
