SNP: Appalachian Trail, Skyland to Thornton Gap, VA

$36 plus park fee or pass. Long hike: 9½ mi., 1550 ft. elevation gain. Moderate hike: 5½ mi., 850 ft. elevation gain.

Starting at the Skyland area, we will pass along some of the best overlooks in the park. Long hikers begin at Skyland and go along the AT over Stony Man to the Pinnacles picnic area. Moderate hikers will begin at the picnic area. Both hikers will go along the AT past the Jewell Hollow overlook and up and down the Pinnacle before descending to Thornton Gap. The hike includes an optional there-and-back to Marys Rock. Afterwards we plan to stop at the Copper Fox distillery, where participants may take a tour of its production facilities.
