About the Event

$26 + park fee/pass. Long hike 10½ mi., 3100 ft. ascent, 2600 ft. descent. Moderate hike, 7½ mi., 1900 ft. ascent, 1600 ft. descent.

Starting on the Skyline Drive, we’ll troop south from Stony Man overlook on the Appalachian Trail and climb to the summit of Stony Man. We’ll then cross the Drive and take the Skyland-Big Meadows Trail for a view of the upper falls of White Oak Canyon. We’ll continue to Hawksbill Gap where the moderate hike ends. Long hikers ascend to the summit rocks of Hawksbill Peak–the park’s loftiest–before following the Salamander Trail and a northbound stretch on the AT to Crescent Rock Overlook.
