$26 + park fee/pass. Long hike: 11½ mi., 2600 ft. ascent/descent. Short hike: up to 8½ mi., up to 1600 ft. ascent/descent.
Towering rock walls, a plunging mountain stream, and perhaps lingering fall colors make this Capital favorite in Shenandoah’s North District a “must.” Starting at Hogback Overlook on the Skyline Drive, we’ll descend the Sugarloaf Trail. Moderate hikers then take the Pole Bridge Link Trail and Keyser Run Fire Road to secluded Bolen Cemetery, and retrace their steps. Long hikers reach the cemetery via a longer route on the Pole Bridge Link, Piney Branch Upper and Hull School Trails. After another stretch on the Hull School Trail, they’ll climb Little Devils Stairs and return to Hogback Overlook on the Pole Bridge Link and Sugarloaf Trails.
