Escape Washington’s summer sauna with a relaxing day in the Massanuttens. We’ll start at Camp Roosevelt, site of the original Depression-era Civilian Conservation Corps camp, and follow the Massanutten Trail southbound. An ascent of the Gap Creek Trail then takes us to Peach Orchard Gap, where an optional boulder scramble to the summit of Duncan Knob affords one of the best views in George Washington National Forest. Moderate hikers continue on the Gap Creek Trail to Crisman Hollow Road; long hikers reach the same road via the Scothorn Gap and Massanutten Mtn. Trails, with a steep climb of Waterfall Mtn. near the end.
