Hike: Catoctin Trail, Hamburg Rd. to Manor Area, MD

$26. 10½ mi., 1100 ft. ascent, 2100 ft. descent. Moderate hike: 8 mi., 800 ft. ascent, 1700 ft. descent

The Catoctin Trail covers 28 miles of hilly terrain along the easternmost ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Maryland. We will cover most of the southern half of the trail, taking in the expansive overlook about 2 miles before descending into the Cunningham Manor area. Long hikers will begin at Hamburg Rd. Moderate hikers will walk briefly along Delauter Rd. (but it has little traffic) to reach the trail and head northward. All hikers will end at the Manor area of Cunningham Falls State Park, with its extensive facilities for picnicking.
