$36. Long hike: 12½ mi., 2500 ft. elevation gain. Moderate hike: 9 mi., 1600 ft. elevation gain.
Both hikes start and end at the western edge of the Park on Route 659. Long hikers ascend Madison Run, Austin Mountain and Rocky Top trails to the AT north of Browns Gap. They then hike south on the AT to the Blackrock Picnic Area and take the Blackrock Spur and Trayfoot Mountain Trails to the Furnace Mountain Trail with its descent to Madison Run. Moderate hikers take the long hike route up to the Madison Spur Trail, take the Madison Spur Trail then retrace their route descending Madison Run Trail.
