About the Event

$26. Long hike: 10 mi., 1600 ft. ascent, 1800 ft. descent. Moderate hike: 7 mi., 1100 ft. ascent, 1100 ft. descent.

What better way to spend a midsummer Saturday than with a breezy hike on the Appalachian Trail and a refreshing swim in a mountain lake? That’s our agenda today. With long hikers hitting the trail on Rt. 94 and short hikers farther south on Pine Grove Road, we’ll take the AT south over Piney Mtn. to near Pine Grove Furnace State Park, where we’ll veer off to the spectacular rock outcropping of Pole Steeple. After absorbing the view, we’ll descend the Pole Steeple Trail to Laurel Lake and circle it clockwise to end at Laurel Dam. Laurel Lake offers prime swimming, with a changing room.
