$26. Long hike: 12 mi., 3100 ft. ascent, 3000 ft. descent. Moderate hike: 8 mi., 2300 ft. ascent, 2000 ft. descent.
From the intersection of Morgans Mill and Ebenezer Rds., we’ll head south on the AT and navigate its aptly named “Roller Coaster” ups-and-downs to Ashby Gap. There moderate hikers stop, while long hikers hit the Ambassador Whitehouse Trail to ogle the view from Piedmont Overlook in Sky Meadows State Park.
