About the Event

$26 + park fee/pass. Long hike: 11 mi., 2800 ft. ascent, 3500 ft. descent. Moderate hike: 7½ mi., 1900 ft. ascent, 2800 ft. descent.

For outstanding views, it’s hard to find a better hike in Shenandoah than this. The views will come repeatedly, especially with leaves off the trees, as we take the Appalachian Trail northbound from the Skyline Drive’s Stony Man Overlook in the park’s Central District. The highlight: the panorama from Marys Rock, where we’ll stop before descending to Thornton Gap. There the moderate hike ends. Long hikers carry on to Beahms Gap, crossing the summit of Pass Mtn.
