Beach Excursion: Chincoteague Island, VA

A languid Sunday in this delightful fishing village/resort by the southern tip of Assateague Island will make a perfect start for your beach season. After a light-traffic bus ride in the middle day of the Memorial Day weekend, you’ll have your choice of a variety of activities – viewing exhibits at the Chincoteague Island National Wildlife Refuge, absorbing the view from the top of the lighthouse, participating in circuit and lagoon area hikes, and, of course, the beach (where we may see some of the famous Assateague Island wild ponies).
