Beach Excursion: Assateague Island National Seashore, MD

$45. Leaves 16th and I St., NW at 8:00 a.m. (no other pick-up point).

Traveling in the hassle-free, middle day of the holiday weekend, this year we’ll go to the north end of Assateague Island, the 31-mile barrier island (longest on the East Coast) that now is a national seashore. Activities include a stop at the Visitor Center, a hike on the beach, possibly seeing some wild ponies, and, of course, the beach (with a bathhouse).
