Hikes Canceled Due to COVID-19
We hope you’re safe and healthy as you cope with the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic, and that you’re finding ways to enjoy the great outdoors.
Unfortunately, there’s no good way to operate our bus trips while practicing social distancing, so the CHC Board has reluctantly suspended CHC hikes indefinitely. As public health guidelines evolve, we’ll make a decision about when to restart.
In the meantime, while the club is not operating any hikes, if you’re looking to arrange an independent hike with fellow members, feel free to visit our Meetup page and review our previous hikes for ideas. (Note that many of our hikes are point-to-point, rather than returning to the starting trailhead, and would therefore require modification or an arrangement for shuttling).
We also recommend these hiking information resources:
Hiking Upward contains searchable maps and trails.
All Trails also contains maps and destinations, along with other hikers’ feedback on trail conditions.
Shenandoah National Park’s website contains a list of recommended day hikes.
George Washington National Forest’s website has trail information for hiking and camping.
Stay safe, stay informed, and stay positive. CHC bus-trip hikes will resume on the other side of this pandemic, and we’ll all be together again!
