Hike: Big Schloss / Tibbet Knob, GWNF, VA/WV

$36. Long: 9 mi., 2,900 ft. elevation gain. Moderate hike: 6 mi., 1,900 ft. elevation gain. The first is Big Schloss, the most famous landmark in George Washington National Forest. We’ll get there from Forest Road 92, climbing the Big Schloss Cutoff Trail to the Mill Mtn. Trail A southbound jaunt on the latter and a short side trip take us to Big Schloss. We then continue to Wolf Gap, from where long hikers add a roundtrip to a second summit at Tibbet Knob.
