It’s the dog days of August–-an ideal time for an escape to an area of Shenandoah’s North District that features some of the park’s most remote wilderness. From Rt. 611 on the west side of the Blue Ridge, we’ll ascend the entire length of the remote Jeremys Run Trail along a tree-shaded, babbling mountain stream that provides a chance to cool our feet at some of its many crossings. Short hikers end at Elkwallow Wayside, the trail’s terminus on Skyline Drive. Long hikers add mileage on the Elkwallow, Traces, Tuscarora and Appalachian Trails to end at Skyline Drive’s Hogback Overlook.
