Shenandoah’s summertime splendor will be on sumptuous display on this excursion in the park’s Central District.  In a unique routing, we’ll start at the Upper Hawksbill parking lot on the Skyline Drive and take the Skyland-Big Meadows Horse Trail past Spitler Hill to the Rose River Trail. That’ll lead us to exquisite Rose River Falls, after which we’ll ascend the Rose River Fire Rd. back to the Drive at Fishers Gap Overlook.  The short hike ends there; long hikers continue on the Appalachian Trail to the Lower Hawksbill parking lot.  En route, if time allows, leaders may offer an optional climb to the overlook atop 4,050-ft. Hawksbill Peak, Shenandoah’s highest.
